• About the Programme

    Access to clean, secure and sustainable energy is essential for enabling socio-economic growth and development. The Master of Science (MSc) programme in Sustainable Energy and Energy Access is designed to provide cross-cutting skills and competencies needed to advance the development and deployment of clean energy technologies and solutions, and business models that will accelerate clean energy access by the population and enterprises worldwide. This programme shall also develop graduates to be ethical, socially responsible and professionally curious in their career roles. Thus, the programme is for professionals who have a passion for making a positive impact in the energy sector.

    What You Will Learn

    The degree aims to give students sound knowledge and skills in the following areas:

    • Clean and sustainable energy technologies and systems
    • Energy markets, policies and regulation
    • Energy planning & management
    • Economic analysis and life-cycle assessment of decentralized energy system projects
    • Energy modelling and data analysis
    • Business model design and entrepreneurship
    • Community engagement

    The programme aims to develop linkages with industry, giving students exposure to and opportunities to participate in real-life projects and gain hands-on experience.

     

    Program Goal Entry Requirement Duration
    To develop energy professionals equipped with high-level skills, knowledge, and competencies that will help grow the clean and sustainable energy access sector A holder of a Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields: Engineering, Energy, Physics, Economics, Environmental sciences, Applied Mathematics, and Business Management, with at least second class honours, upper division or GPA 3.2 and above, which is recognized by Moi University. A Holder of a second class honours lower division degree from a University accredited by CUE in addition to a postgraduate diploma in a relevant field, or 2 years relevant working experience may also be considered. 2 years (coursework and Research thesis)

     

    Beyond Technical Skills

    Apart from technical competencies, the programme places strong importance on soft skills. Graduates will become innovators, entrepreneurs, effective communicators, problem solvers, and leaders in the energy sector, through collaborative learning, laboratory activities, computer simulations, field exploratory tours, and community-based learning activities.
