About the Programme

Access to clean, secure and sustainable energy is essential for enabling socio-economic growth and development. The Master of Science (MSc) programme in Sustainable Energy and Energy Access is designed to provide cross-cutting skills and competencies needed to advance the development and deployment of clean energy technologies, solutions, and business models that will accelerate clean energy access for populations and enterprises worldwide. This programme shall also develop graduates to be ethical, socially responsible, and professionally curious in their career roles.

Core Learning Objectives & Competencies

  • Clean Energy Technologies: Deep technical knowledge in solar PV/thermal, wind energy, biomass conversion, small hydropower, and energy storage systems.
  • Energy Markets, Policy & Regulation: In-depth understanding of global and regional energy market design, tariff setting, carbon finance, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Project Planning & Financial Management: Essential skills in techno-economic modeling, project finance, risk assessment, and life-cycle evaluation of decentralized energy systems.
  • Business Model Design & Entrepreneurship: Practical capabilities to launch, scale, and manage bankable energy enterprises tailored to off-grid and mini-grid markets.
  • Community Engagement: Mastery of participatory social frameworks, consumer demand stimulation, and human-centered design for energy technology adoption.

Norwegian Exchange Student Presents MSc Final Thesis Defense at Moi University

MSc SEEA students engaged in an intensive practical bootcamp with leading energy industry partners to solve real-world decentralized energy challenges.

 

As part of the practical and entrepreneurial orientation of the MSc in Sustainable Energy & Energy Access, students participated in an interactive bootcamp alongside clean energy industry leaders, technology providers, and market practitioners.

The bootcamp provided students with hands-on experience in off-grid solar system design, mini-grid financing models, bio-energy testing, and community adoption strategies. Collaborating directly with industry mentors ensures that Moi University graduates possess market-relevant skills aligned with employer demands.
