Call for 2024 Application: Liechtenstein REED Scholarship for MSc in Sustainable Energy & Energy Access

QUALIFIED STUDENT SUPPORT FOR THE ENERGY ACCESS – LEARNING PARTNERSHIP INITIATIVE AT MOI UNIVERSITY, KENYA
APPLICATION DEADLINE: 31 July 2024.

The Liechtenstein Institute for Strategic Development with support by the Government of Liechtenstein is proud to present this Scholarship at selected universities across Africa, in support of a number of UN Sustainable Development Goals – including #7: affordable and clean energy for all.
The Liechtenstein Renewable Energy Enterprise Development (REED) Scholarship supports pre-selected students in the master program of the participating university.
The program aims to develop the next generation of African experts to grow the renewable energy access sector across the country’s industries, cities, towns and communities.
The Liechtenstein Institute for Strategic Development is dedicated to the integration and proliferation of renewable energy in infrastructure, urban and regional development internationally. Its Liechtenstein REED Scholarship is supported by the Government of Liechtenstein’s international development program.

ELIGIBILITY AND HOW TO APPLY

Scholarships are awarded on basis of financial need, academic excellence, commitment to community renewable energy access in the country as well as contribution to cultural and social diversity goals.

Successful candidates will be awarded support for living expenses in order to help complete the program within the standard MSc program period. To apply, you must meet the admission requirements of participating university and its relevant masters program, and submit the admission application form plus the required material stipulated below.

AWARD INFORMATION

The scholarship is awarded for a maximum duration of a standard MSc program length, renewable each term subject to merit and maintenance of an acceptable level of academic performance.
The scholarship is designed to supplement living expenses such as accommodation, food and/or other related educational expenses at the recipients’ discretion. The amount is related to the national Cost of Living index. A scholarship is granted once the application with its required documents has been approved, and an award agreement has been signed.
Selections are made by a committee including LISD and University representatives.
A recipient of the scholarship for a given term does not automatically receive it in the following. To receive the award for the next consecutive term, recipients will need to maintain their grade average, meet any other required criteria and submit required renewal materials for additional payment. Payments are made at the beginning of each semester or term.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Scholarship awardees are required to:
• complete all mandatory courses in time,
• maintain good grades and high performance standing,
• submit a first-year statement of insights and academic progress as application for the final semester or term, and
• present a final report on experience, lessons and final academic results.

Call for Application for Admission 2024/2025: MSc in Sustainable Energy & Energy Access

The School of Engineering of Moi University and the African Centre of Excellence in Phytochemicals, Textiles and Renewable Energy, through the Transforming Energy Access Learning Partnership (TEA-LP) project, has developed a multi-disciplinary Master’s degree programme in Sustainable Energy & Energy Access to bridge the skills gap in Africa’s rapidly-growing energy access sector towards achieving SDG7. The TEA-LP project is coordinated by University of Cape Town (UCT) in South Africa and funded by UK Aid.

Moi University therefore invites applications for admission for 2024/25 academic year from suitably qualified candidates for the Master’s degree as indicated below. Limited scholarships are available to eligible candidates.

Program Goal Entry Requirement Duration
To develop energy professionals equipped with high level skills, knowledge and competencies that will help grow the clean and sustainable energy access sector A holder of Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields; Engineering, Energy, Physics, Economics, Environmental sciences, Applied Mathematics, and Business Management, with at least second class honours, upper division or GPA 3.2 and above, which is recognized by Moi University. A Holder of a second class honours lower division degree from a University accredited by CUE in addition to a postgraduate diploma in a relevant field, or 2 years relevant working experience may also be considered. 2 years (course work and Research thesis)

The programs are scheduled to start in September, 2024 at Eldoret town Campus. The application should be done not later than 31st July 2024. Training will be via blended mode (Face-to-Face and Online).
